Ilulissat & the UNESCO Icefjord

Discover one of the most extraordinary places on Earth: the Ilulissat Icefjord, known in Greenlandic as Ilulissat Kangerlua. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to some of the planet’s most active ice formations, where the mighty Sermeq Kujalleq glacier produces a constant flow of icebergs.

Whether bathed in sunlight, shimmering with dazzling whites, or set against overcast skies that deepen their blues, the icebergs are a sight to behold. Some peaks rise over 100 meters above the water, revealing only a fraction of their true size. And to truly grasp their grandeur, you must experience them from the water, gliding gently next to these nature’s giants.

Excursion Overview: Boat Trip to the Icefjord

In this 2-hour boat journey through the mouth of the Ilulissat Icefjord, where colossal icebergs drift silently, experienced local guides share fascinating insights into the formation of the icefjord and its importance to the region’s environment and culture.

During the tour, you’re encouraged to spend time out on deck for the best views and photo opportunities (and the occasional spotting of a pod of whales or a solitary harbor seal), but a heated cabin is available if you need a warm break.
